Companies are constantly searching for new systems to optimize their processes and improve production.

To achieve the objectives pursued by companies, collaborative robots have become key.

What are collaborative robots?

Collaborative robots or cobots started to be installed in factories relatively recently and have led to increased performance in all kinds of industrial fields. They take care of the most arduous, tedious and repetitive tasks a worker faces. They can perform numerous actions from palletizing sacks or boxes to manufacturing pallets.

Here you can see an example of how a collaborative robot works inside a factory.

This type of technology seeks to be the perfect complement for the worker. In other words, it is not intended to replace human beings, but to help them in their day-to-day work. People perform the most valuable tasks and robots take care of the most repetitive ones.

The key for SMEs

The classic industrial robots that have been implemented in companies are not profitable for SMEs. This is because they usually have a tight budget, which makes it difficult to introduce new technology.

Instead, cobots appear to be the future for small businesses and the key to increasing their production, enabling growth within the industry.

At Atlas we work with reconditioned robots, allowing any company to acquire them. This technology is accessible and easy to integrate into the business ecosystem.

Collaborative robots: present and future

Cobots have become an important part of the robotics landscape in the last decade. Their steady growth demonstrates that collaborative work between people and robots is a reality.

In 2021, the number of industrial robot installations in the world exceeded half a million for the first time, and it is estimated that almost 700,000 units installed per year could be reached by 2025.
Within this progress, Spain is among the 15 countries with the highest number of robots installed. Their most common tasks are material handling, assembly and disassembly and palletizing.

Cobots are expected to account for 30% of the total robotics market by 2027, reaching four million robots installed worldwide (according to the global mobile robot market report from Interact Analysis).

For Enrico Krog, CEO of Universal Robots, "This great momentum is due to the fact that people trust robots more and, at the same time, robotic technology. In the coming years we will see further development of applications in sectors such as healthcare, tourism, transportation, logistics and agriculture."
